Radiation Alert in Slovenia

At 09:38 EDT on 4 June, 2008, the European Union received information that officials in Slovenia were following safety procedures to shut down the Krsko nuclear plant due to a loss of coolant in the plant's primary cooling system. They issued a radiation alert that was sent to all countries in the European Union as a precautionary measure. The plant was closed as crews conducted repairs and investigated the incident. It was later determined that no radioactive materials were leaked into the environment and the plant was reopened.

NC4 analysts first received information about the incident by monitoring foreign-language sources in Europe. This information was later supplemented by media and business outlets across the continent. Alerts were sent to clients as the incident progressed, including the period of time when the outcome of the leak was unclear and once all fears of radiological contamination had been quelled.
